EXTENDED TENURES
We are facing resources crunch as never before despite denials from PMO, Planning Commission etc. Dr.Ahuluwalia craves to sell the stake of government in all listed PSUs to have funds for his development program. the basic problem is that Government is not able to curtail its spending and bring down the fiscal deficit by any appreciable number. why is that so? Because they lack the intent and the will for that. Otherwise how any one could explain the extensions given to civil servants for years now.Padmanabiah was Cabinet Secretary in the early nineties when Narasimha Rao was PM. He still draws salary and perks form the exchequer as interlocutor with Naga militants. Shyama Saran has an extension as advisor to PM on Nuclear deal( a deal which has now become defunct) Shiv Shankar Menon has an extended tenure NSA has had several extensions . Well we have the largest pool of talented youngsters and the Government persists with old men bereft of any new ideas to perpetuate legacy issues. All these people draw hefty salaries and enjoy perks at our expense for doing nothing.
There was a controversy in the media about Sashi Tharoor and SM Krishna staying in 5 Star suites. Until it came to light, no body knew that. Tharoor claims that he was paying form his pocket and ridiculed claims of austerity. SM Krishna's bills were paid by his son-in-law which is against political propriety. We have a Minister for Petroleum who has a family relationship dating for years with a Private Sector baron and it is presumed that the Minister will be impartial in his dealings. It is up to Sonia Gandhi and her son to set all these right because Dr.Singh has become a prisoner of circumstances unable to fire his own men when they indulge in vulgar display of wealth.
