MINING MAFIA
Bharathiya Janatha Party proclaimed itself to be a party with a difference. they had tall leaders in Atal Behari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Late Bairon Singh Shekawat, Nanaji Deshmukh and so on. the Party surprisingly was able to form a coalition government under the leadership of charismatic Vajpayee which lasted a full term after an initial hicup when Jayalalitha brought him down in a single vote. When the party become a ruling party , people from all walks of life made a bee line which included lobbyists from every conceivable section of the society including lawyers, businessmen, journalists etc. Arun Jaitely, Arun Shourie, Bhatias of HT Pramod mahajan are a select few who made to the top echelons of the party. Mahajan was an adopted son of Vajpayee when he held the Sahasra Chandra darshan for the ageing leader when Vajpayee proclaimed him to be the Lakshman for Advani. Later on a charismatic Shushma Swaraj, backward class leaders like Uma bharathi, Kalyan Singh and Narendra Modi emerged. Now the days of principled politics were given up and manipulative politics took centre stage. BJP captured power for the first time in Karnataka after Devegowda's son Kumaraswamy reneged on his promise and brought down Yeddyurappa. this time around, BJP needed the clout of mining mafia of Reddy brothers. After helping to install a non congress government at vidhan Soudha, Reddy brothers demanded their pound of flesh. They took MLAs hostage in holiday resorts when whole Karnataka was reeling under floods. Yeddyurappa was forced to kneel down before their might by the central leadership. Again the Reddy brothers made it to the news when Lok Ayukta Justice Santosh Hegde complained about non cooperation from BJP Government. Lok Ayukta was given suo moto powers by one of the most un principled politician in India Ramakrishna Hegde. He was media darling of yester years. Except Dr.Subramanian Swamy who exposed him despite all round adulation for him, after the Ramalingam commission of enquiry established that the Byre Gowda Moily tape was doctored, Hegde fell from grace. Opposition closed in ranks and started attacking Yeddyurappa. Governor crossing his constitutional limits asked for the sacking of Reddy Brothers. Despite all this BJP leadership is silent on the activities of the mining mafia. If they do not sack them now, BJP will be forgotten as a party with a difference very shortly.
