Facebook Use Can Boost Election Chances

According to a newspaper in Arabic, Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter having a great impact on elections. As report says these are helping a candidate to boost his election chances. According to a survey report political candidates with an interest in social media suggesting and driving more votes than candidates having no social media accounts.

 

A psychology lecturer Dr Ciarán McMahon presented a paper at the weekend at the annual conference of the Political Studies Association of Ireland in Dublin where he described the impact of social media engagement in the general election in February. According to his survey report he reported that the votes were carried by the number of fans and friends or followers a candidate had. He said the average number of votes for someone who had a Facebook account in the poll was 4,402 and the average number of votes for someone didn’t have the account was 2,100. He also said that out of 566 candidates, 446 candidates who had Twitter accounts they got 4,885 votes while those who did not got on average 2,676 votes. So this somehow proved that the Social media sites have an impact on elections.

 

According to this Arab News report, the interesting thing of this survey report is that candidates having Facebook and Twitter account will definitely drive more votes.
