Perhaps yes...I may be wrong...let me know if I am..few weeks back I was reading a article about how a woman from UK called a BT Customercare in case of urgency ....and how BT customercare people responded to urgency by asking her to give her proof of identity before proceedings and then wasting time by following some procedures before coming to actual issue of calling person...it was really bad to read it at the end when called person had spent 40-50 min for convincing the BT fellows to look into her urgent problem..nothing happened...so at end when she called up CEO's office...his secetary..without giving a single thought to any formality gave directions to managers to solve the called person's problem..very funny...a non technical person helped..very funny..

I was really horrified by the story....imagine your phone line was cut and u are going to receive an very very imp call soon...u call the phone company...customer care officials...and they ask you number of series of weired Q to verify ur identitiy..and confirming things and wasting your invaluable time...just imagine..

Many times wht I find is that we are totally wrapped ourselves into rules and procedures we made for our convinence...we just dnt think about them while we do it...we just follow it...we just dnt think beyond it..we just dnt listen someone's plea in case of urgency...we just many times dnt go beyond rules...but why??

Do you fear something? Yes we all do...we think it is bad idea to violate the rules and procdures we follow daily..if something goes wrong in that case....I will be held responsible for misdeed.. Why should I do it? Whts the purpose of going beyond rules and help someone in case of geniune urgency?? You dnt think then...u just dnt want to do it...Why should I?? Someone else shd do it...why me..?

Come on people...when u think of rules and procedures...when we follow it...just give a second thought about the purpose of rules at first place. Think for whom are they made...think whts the use of following procedures if it is not going to solve someone's problem...Is it all the time necessaary to stick to rules..?

It may be debatable...yes...but trying to understand that some is one the other side of phone or counter is helpless...he/she called you or trying to get in touch with you coz there is something issue out there which might need the urgent action from your own side..and if you don't act on prompt basis...the whole purpose of your pridest forms of so called procedures have no meanings at all..they are simply meaningless...Useless...

Today afternoon I called British Library,New Delhi to renew my books...at first place the facility provided by BL to renew books on phone is really good one..and it really helps when you personally can't go to Library to renew books...but when I told lady on other side that I am unable to come to library this week..so please renew my books...or oterhwise I will come on saturday to renew those books personally...It was not a big deal ...I was telling her that I find very inconvinent to come to BL after traveling 10-15km during weekdays coz of timings of library..and I will renew my books on Saturday itslef...

But despite the real fact...she coldly refused to do so...citing me some rule of BL..that no books can be renewed twice..as I renewed it earlier once...I was helpless..So was she...or was she?? Was there anyone in need of those book on urgent basis before Saturday..?? No one was...then is the rule of BL to allow someone renew books only once is helping someone ?

Certianly there are exceptions to rule always..it is said...It is true...you can't deny the simple fact while making rules and procedures that there arenot going to be any exceptions to these rules...How can you deny it before? Yes..it is tough to find those in advance but when you come across ...its you...who has to decide whether it is exception to rule or not..You have to think that why the rule is there at first place...? For whom is it there at first place..? And if I dnt allow myself to go beyond those guidelines who is going to suffer??

I can talk at length about this...It is weired thing...Rules and Regulations are meant for us...We made them..to help us ..to save us from going into chaos...and if they are not helping us in case of geniune urgencies then whts the use of them?

Please give a second thought when you come across such thing...It might save someone from suffering..
