Suicide is defined as any methods by which one or more persons purposely kill themselves. Suicide is the act or an instance of killing oneself intentionally. The word Suicide comes from the Latin sui and cidium means to kill oneself. It is the act of willfully ending one’s own life. It is sometimes used as a noun for one who has committed or attempted the act.  Some States, however, classify attempted suicide as a criminal act, but prosecutions are rare, especially when the offender is terminally ill.

There are numerous varieties that people committed suicide, including swallowing poisonous spiders, power drilling holes in their heads, sticking hot pokers down their throats, choking on underwear, injecting peanut butter into their veins, crushing their necks in vices and many more. It is observed that suicide rates are highest among the young and elderly. Hanging is one of the leading method of suicide around the World and is particularly famous in rural areas.

It is common thinking of experts that early exposure to child abuse may disrupt the proper development of communication pathways within the brain and consequently, abuse victims are more likely than their peers to commit suicide. It is true that most people who commit suicide have a mental or emotional disorder. The most common underlying disorder is depression, 30% to 60% of suicide victims suffer from major depression or bipolar disorder.

The average suicide rate in the U.S. is about 11 per 100,000 per year. This amounts to one completed suicide every 16 minutes. Among young adult’s ages 15 to 24 years old, there is 1 suicide for every 100-200 attempts. Nearly 1 million people worldwide commit suicide each year, with anywhere from 10 million to 20 million suicide attempts annually.
