The Sweet and Sour Indo Pak Relation
In Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) , a large number of terrorist outfits have assembled together to close peace talks. After Shiv Sankar Menon's appointment as national security adviser ( NSA) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pushed afresh for dialogue with Pakistan although Pakistan response to the Indian call for action against terrorists is not encouraging. The Prime Minister's call for resuming peace talks is only opening a crack in the door to see if any progress can at all be achieved.
In PoK sessionist and terrorist elements are led by Syed Salahuddin of Hizb-ul Mujahideen and Jamaat -ud-Dawa boss Hafiz Saeed who have of late planned a rally to intensify efforts for Kasmiri liberation.
In this context developments in India are not less important. The Shiv Sena already threatened Shah Rukh Khan for his comments favouring the tour of Cricketers of Pakistan to India. Sena Patriarch Bal Thackeray in Saamna had taken a swipe at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on the eve of Rahul's visit to Mumbai in protest against the Shiv Sena activities against Shah Rukh Khan. Thackeray wrote: Mumbai could belong to all Indians but how could it belong to and Italian mummy? " It is quite interesting that the Sena fundamentalists have threatend violence against those who screened My Name is Khan. This is bound to create a sense of insecurity in the mind of the muslims in India and the terrorists will get more tacit support for a section of minority. This has long term impact on the Hindu -muslim relationship in the country.
It must be remembered in this context the sense of outrage against Osama Bin Laden and his Taliban hosts triggered the US-led military intervention in Afghanistan .Taliban is again regrouping by capitalizing on the shortcomings of the Hamid Karzai regime an the ham-handedness of the US and NATO forces. In India too the Hindu fundamentalists should not be allowed to dominate over the national secular forces. The Indo-Pak relations may be in jeopardy in such cases.
