Engineers in Demand
The engineering employment market is experiencing unprecedented levels of activity, with a rising number of vacancies, competing for a falling number of skilled engineers…
Recent research by the UK's DTI has shown that engineers of nearly all disciplines are some of the most sought after professional groups. According to the Office for National Statistics, the average earnings for a Chartered Engineer is nearly £45,000, compared to the UK's average salary of just over £20,000. In 1999, 74% of engineering graduates were in full employment within six months of their graduation, compared to just 66% of all graduates. In addition the average salary for engineering graduates is £16,475 compared to the average of just £13,725. One of the reasons cited for this is that the number of engineering graduates has been falling for the last six years, with the percentage of engineering undergraduates halving from 11.5% to 5.79% as a percentage of all university students. This combined with a strong economy has ensured that skilled and experienced engineers are in more demand than ever throughout the World.
