Call it coincidence or call it planning, but the world will be witnessing LFW in two different countries from 18th to 22nd September 2009. As London Fashion Week will kick off in the U.K. Lakme Fashion Week will be staged in Mumbai during the same dates. But this piece is not about blowing the stark similarity out of proportion. Instead, in a recent development, The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced U.S. based PR Company, 'People's Revolution' to promote London Fashion Week (LFW) and British designers in the USA. Well no big deal with that you would imagine. Now hear this- People's Revolution was approached last season as well by the BFC. But weeks before the D-Day, the association was called off. The reason- Recession of course! An insider quoted, "we were going to hire People’s, but with the downturn of economy in the States, we thought it just did not make sense putting our money there. Now things are better and we are ready to consolidate." However, this had riled the people at People’s and they were apparently so miffed at the last minute back out that they had sworn not to take up LFW as an account. The media flashed reports which called the BFC's behaviour as 'unethical' and 'unprofessional'. Well as they say- in media, no permanent friendships and no permanent enemies- People’s seem to have buried the hatchet and are all gung ho about notching up London Fashion Week as a client for promotion in the States. Caroline Rush joint chief executive of the British Fashion Council, commented, "The appointment of People's Revolution aims to increase awareness and exposure of British designers amongst US media and buyers with the goal of supporting the growth of designer businesses and increasing the attendance of these audiences at London Fashion Week."
