Rajasthan Seeks Power, Coal For Its Ongoing Power Projects From The Centre
Facing an acute power crisis for several days, the Rajasthan Government requested the Centre to allocate 500 MW electricity to the desert State from its unallotted discretionary quota for irrigation of rabi crops and also a lot sufficient quantity of coal for the ongoing power projects.
State Energy Minister Jitendra Singh met Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal in New Delhi to discuss the power situation and draw their attention to the huge gap between demand and supply during the crucial months when rabi crops need irrigation.
Rajasthan to buy extra power from unallotted quota
Jaipur: of unallotted Central pool quota. The decision was taken by the state Cabinet which met here this evening under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, to review the prevailing power situation in the state.
After the meeting, Energy Minister Jitendra Singh told the media that efforts were being made to improve the situation and cater to the farmer’s requirement for Rabi crop season. Singh claimed that the situation was expected to improve by the next fortnight or so.
He said it was not only Rajasthan which was facing the crisis, but many state in the country particularly those in Northern India, were confronting with the crisis. “In our state, the situation is comparatively better”, he claimed.
Singh expressed satisfaction over the functioning of power companies and said the power revenue collection made by them was impressive as more than 90 per cent of dues were being realised.
In view of the power shortage and to cater to maximum possible extent, the crop season need of farmers, a power cut ranging between a period of one to 5-6 hours has presently been enforced in the state.
