Have you ever been snubbed by your Manager?

Independent Principal Domain Consul...

Well. I know even if one were snubbed by one’s Manager, it may require willingness on one’s part to share such personal bad experience, one may otherwise wish to forget.

Wishing away and forgetting them as a bad experience may be a temporary solution to deal with such personally disrespectful and disdainful situations.

However, it is advisable to ponder over why such incidents happen in the work place so that one may get suitably guided to deal with such incidents.

Well. Let us analyze why such incidents take place in the work place? I believe they happen for one or for more of the following reasons.

-          The Manager who is supervising his team may not be confident about the subject that is being dealt with

-          The Manager may be ‘under’ qualified professionally, personally and temperamentally to deal with his team

-          The Manager may feel that he is being threatened by subordinates’ superiority which may be overshadowing his authority in the organization

-          The Manager may be under stress and strain to deliver his deliverables to his Senior Management and his failure to cope up with the situation

-          The Manager may want to let out his frustration by directly taking on his team.

Normally the Manager may exhibit his work place snubbing in one or more of the following forms.

-          Walking away from the in-person meeting organized by him with his team on an important subject in the middle of discussions.

-          Disconnecting telephonic discussions initiated by the Manager in the middle of discussions without any reason abruptly

-          Directly ridiculing his team member in the presence of the subordinates.

-          Directly threatening his team member in the presence of others that he would initiate disciplinary actions for any doing/undoing not substantiated by facts.

It is indeed one’s misfortune to work under and report to an incompetent manager.

How to deal with such a manager?

The ideal way to deal with such a manager is to ignore him and his snubbing totally. In due course, such managers will get exposed in the organization and their authority will be diluted. Ultimately they may have to leave the organization.

Hence it is better to focus on the quality of one’s deliverables only and do not get affected by the snubbing of the manager. Only through this, one would be able to retain one’s head high in work environment in the long run. One’s stake will go up in the organization in this process.
