My head’s been churning these numbers past few days:

40% is what Indian produce of fruit, vegetables and otherfood products perish unused for want of adequate storage and distributionsystem. These are the 2009 figures published by the Federation of IndianChambers of Commerce.

Over 40% of water is lost through the Indian waterdistribution system. And this is when India has declared a war on resolving theWater scarcity and the World realizes that water is the next “oil”.

40% of food is thrown unused from US households.

I don’t know really which of these 40% figures are worse andwho is more irresponsible? But I cannot help feeling terrible about this andwondering what we can do to change this.
