PERSEVERANCE : THE STORY OF KFC

Born in 1980 the boy was the eldest child in the family of 5. At the age of 6 he lost his father who worked in coal mines. His mother took up work in a shirt factory and the boy tended to things at home and learned to cook food, chicken and many varieties. He has to take care of his younger brother and sister. And from then over the next several years the boy had done many odd jobs as a farm hand, street car conductor, firemen, running a service station. Finally he settled down in cooking which he learnt from his mother in his childhood.

In 1935 he turned 45 and Governor Rubby Laffon made him colonel because of his delectable cooking skills. Sooner he started his own restaurant and became very popular. At 65 all his friends and well wishers requested him to retire from work and even offered a price of 1Cr as rent for his restaurant every year. But the old man was reluctant and wanted to continue his work.

Progress is not always good of every one. In 1950s the government planned for a new express high way and in the process the old man’s restaurant was demolished. Sooner the old man was on road penniless. All those who requested him earlier started to criticize him. At the age of 66 the old man with his wife started his new journey in a small old car that remained for him. He retired to a social security check of 105$ a month.

He did not blame the government. He did not blame the environment or his friends or anyone. He started his journey with a few utensils he had. He believed in himself and decided to work as a cook in restaurants. He started to look for a job but every one turned down. Someone because of his age, some because of his condition and a few don’t want to take risk.

He slept in his old car with his wife. Whenever his wife cried he asked himself “Have I done any mistake? Or Am I doing any mistake?”. Many nights passed on like this. He has been rejected for 1008 times and finally he decided to start his own restaurant with the little money his wife saved. He made his small car into a shop. H e used to sell his items at various places every day. Sooner he became very popular and again with little money he saved he started a restaurant. Again e became very popular in such a way that people requested him to start a restaurant at their places. So he began franchises and became very popular. But again he has to face critics as the old man of a small restaurant going for franchisees country wide. But he did not stopped. He went ahead and became popular world wide that he has his footprint every ware across the globe.

He is none other than Pete Harland Sanders of KFC.(Kentucky Fried Chicken). Kentucky means southern hospitality and good food.

MORAL : Every person should have a goal small or big. It should be in every part and move of our life. We must dedicate ourselves to the goal. Every second, every work, every dream should be about our goal. We may face hurdles on the way but get up as fast as you can, learn from the mistake and go ahead.
