VOICE OF AN ODIA
IT is only the language, what has given us a separate province, a separate identity. However, after 71 years of the formation of a Linguistic State, Odia, the base is perhaps, the most neglected entity in Orissa. ODiAs are no longer wanted to be identified with this ancient language, rather they feel proud to communicate in English or in Hindi at any social Gatherings, at any official meeting and even in their drawing rooms also. In fact, we feel ashamed if we could not able to manage a sheet in an English medium school where, ODiA is taught as a second language. Even, state- sponsored schools also, little emphasize has given to ODiA Language study. Today, in every news & Entertainment Media of Odisha, we find wrong presentation of ODiA language. Non- ODiA words and non-Odia style of sentences have become a fashion.
We must make ODiA a compulsory for every competitive exam organized by OPSC in Odisha. With making ODiA our official language, we must be strict enough to implement it seriously. To create more interest in studding ODiA language, Govt. of Odisha should facilitate through Scholarships and other rewards to the Scholars in this language. Major literary works of our language must be translated in to English or any other language so that our literature and language will become popular.
Odisha is regarded as a state, who gives importance to every different ideology. Unit in diversity is our cultural ethic. As an artistic state, Odisha believes that, diversity and differences are the core factor of Creativity. We respect all cultures, all languages and all ideologies only because, we do not want that, there should be only one type of colour in this world, rather we belief, there are colours what make our world so beautiful. Therefore, we must learn other languages for the development of our knowledge and so to our won ODiA for the betterment of our life. Hence, whichever are different from our culture, thought and ideology, we should here them. It could be possible only after we learn their language but not at the cost of our own language.
Again, according to the Economic Survey Report of the Finance Department of Indian Government, not only KBK districts, but also the entire Odisha is the poorest state in the country. Around 1.84 Cr people of Odisha are poor. Fifty seven percent of rural oDiAs could not able to earn even Twelve rupees per day. Each year Natural Calamities play “hide & seek” with Odisha’s destiny.
It is a well-known fact that, Odisha is very much rich in the Natural Resources. This is the only thing what has attracted a well amount of FDI to Odisha in the near past. According to a Government report, among twenty odd mines bidders, eighteen persons are Non-oDiA. In addition, the estimated profit amount those bidders are INR. 24,500/- Cr, where as the share of the state, the real owner of the mines is only 4%.
We have believed that, Natural Resources are enough for the economic development of our state. Wrong! No state can be developed by exporting its Natural resources only. However, it is human resource, what make a state developed. In fact, countries like Congo, Nigeria and Carillon are full in natural resources, but they are still struggling with poverty. Where as country like Japan, where there is no natural resource at all is considered as a developed nation. Hence, our property does not lie under the soil; rather, it is in the brains of our Youths. We should take initiatives for the development of our human resources. Therefore, time has come to think about an intelligent Odisha. Then, what ought to be the criterion for this knowledge revolution? Education must be in our first and fore most priority. We need not require more numbers of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), rather, we need more Social Development Zones (SDZ), where, IIM & IIT like Institutions of National repute will feel comfortable to invest. The State Government should take necessary steps for making Odisha as the Knowledge Hub of Eastern India. It is possible only, when, we could able to arrange the best education for every student of Odisha despite of cast and creed. Let Knowledge do rule over Odisha, not poverty.
Naxals are incipient now. These extremists are the single biggest security challenge to Odisha. It is said that, poverty and illiteracy are the main cause of this problem. Even after sixty years of the Country’s independence, there are thousands of villages in the state of Odisha where, basic civic amenities have become a daydream for the villagers. Forget about electricity and well-connected roads, the people are deprived of proper education and health care. Due to corruptions in every level of the system, “inclusive growth” becomes a farcical term in Odisha.
Almost seventy percent population of Odisha directory depends upon agriculture. However, the total percentage of farmers in our state is only 29.69 %. In fact, most of the farmers are poor, uneducated and untrained. Still, they are using the traditional method of firming. Before ten to twelve years back, Andhra Pradesh was purchasing paddy from us, but today it shows different scene. Now we have to buy at least 25 kinds of food items from them, which cost more than twenty-five crores of rupees. Modern equipments and pesticides are merely a daydream for our farmers who, even, struggle a lot to get repairing of their traditional one. Lack of irrigation facility is also a major drawback for the low production of crops in state like Odisha where, floods and famines continuously regular. We could able to use only 5% of the ground water, where as, Punjab uses almost 85% of it. Hence, there is a serious need of planned development centered economic revolution to overcome this ashamed situation. Government should give priority to irrigate every hector of firm land along with various subside.
