Can Global Warming be controlled?
Oceans are rising.
There is near-unanimous scientific agreement that the world has warmed by about 1 degree Fahrenheit in the past century. Most attribute part of that change to the buildup of carbon dioxide and other "greenhouse" gases that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere.
While the latest round of UN climate change talks is going on in Spain on Nov. 2-6, Yvede Boer, the UN climate chief, said on Tuesday that the Kyoto Protocol needed to continue and industrialized countries should come up with more ambitious targets on emission reduction under the protocol.
Industrialized countries had to do more to fight climate change and come with more ambitious targets according to the Kyoto Protocol to avoid the worst impact of climate change, industrialized countries needed to reduce their emissions by between 25 percent and 40 percent by 2020.
We need to immediately ratify Kyoto Protocol and also include developing nations to put as much efforts by their side as they can.Governments should issue permits allotting each company an emission cap. Companies unable to stay within their limit should be allowed to buy permits from companies that could reduce emissions below their caps. Permits should be traded like stock.
It seems that until and unless the entire population, whether it be from developed countries or from developing countries, takes initiative to control the environmental crisis, no one can do anything alone to a great extent. Thus, we should start making small contributions to protect our environment.
