It is Difficult to Chant the Name of God
It is Difficult to Chant the Name of God
It was 11 o’clock in the morning in Dera Sacha Sauda and H.H. Mastana Ji with some volunteers and celibate volunteers was weeding and sowing vegetable seeds and moving in the direction of the old gate. Meanwhile five people who were labourers going to Sirsa in search of work, were passing in front of the ashram. They were astonished to see the buildings of the ashram in the jungle. They stopped near the main gate and thought of resting for a while. The volunteers standing at the gate courteously gave them roasted gram to eat and water to drink. When they enquired they were told that all religions and castes were loved in this darbar and that only God’s Name was chanted here and people encouraged to chant the same.
Meanwhile, H.H. arrived at the gate and asked the volunteers as to who the newcomers were. They said that they were labourers. H.H. then asked them, “How much money do you get after working for the whole day?” They said, “Sai, we get only two rupees for working from morning to evening.” H.H. asked, “If we give you bread and tea along with the two rupees a day, will you work in the ashram?” They were very happy to hear this and said, “Sure sir.” H.H. ordered them to start their work immediately. It was already 12 noon but H.H. promised to give them the whole day’s wages. H.H. then ordered tea from the community kitchen and gave it to them and told them that lunch would be provided to them after three hours.
H.H. took them with him in the direction of the small rooms in front of them. There were also some celibate volunteers with him. H.H. told the labourers, “Each one of you get into one room each, bolt the door from inside, sit comfortably and keep saying ‘Dhan Dhan Satguru Tera Hi Aasra’. This is your work.”
They were to get the day’s wages and the work was to just sit. The workers happily got into one room each. Shahenshah Ji, sitting on a cane chair facing the rooms, started explaining to the volunteers that when one sits to meditate, the mind immediately starts to wander outside and concentration is lost. The person meditating does not know about this even after a long time. One should keep watch over one’s mind. This way with diligent practice the mind tires and becomes stable.
Meanwhile, from the rooms one could hear the sounds of the labourers’ restlessness. It was a sight worth seeing! It was to demonstrate things that Satguru Ji had done all this. It had been only five minutes into the ‘sitting session’ when the door of one room opened, but upon seeing that H.H. was seated in front, the door closed immediately. In the same manner one by one each door would open and then shut immediately. H.H. was smiling while seeing all this. H.H. then stood up and walked away laughing in the direction of the cave. As soon as Shahenshah Ji had gotten up and prepared to leave, a man came out of one room as if he had been watching through a hole and was waiting for this moment. After coming out he ran out of the ashram in such haste that he looked like a thief. Upon hearing some noise the remaining men also opened the doors and saw the first man and started running behind him fast and even after coming out of the gate they kept running. One man even left his slippers there and ran.
When H.H. saw all this, he said, “Amazing! They would have received food, money, tea and even rest, and yet they could not take it. The mind is such a tyrant that in 24 hours it does not allow one to sit in the remembrance of God for even five minutes.”
