Shocking reality- materialistic fellow beings

Whenever I watch a tamil or a hindi film I make comments that only in films such things happen. For example,a villain or a rogue would be thrashing the hero or a woman in the midst of the crowded street and there would be onlookers encircling them.I used to say," How can they show as if people watch happily when such atrocities happen in the day light? Wouldn't they call the police or help this man out?"

Ofcourse somebody reminded me,' Didn't it happen in Mahabharatha when Draupathy was relieved of her sari and great men like Bhishma and others watched helplessly? Not only that. Everyday we witness a scene on the road. There is somebody lying on the road under pool of blood hit by a car and there is not single soul to lend him a helping hand. Blame it on harassment to the helper by the police. Even the doctors at the clinics refuse to admit the accident victims.

Today I read a news item in THE HINDU,that really beats everything.I came to a concusion,'if reel can be real , real can be unreal.' A statement made by Kumar Shetty who single handedly took on the 40 strong Sri Ram sene brigade when it attacked women guests at Amnesia pub in Mangalore recently made me come to this conclusion.

Recalling the event he says,"There were over a hundred bystanders but not one of them did anything to prevent the attack"

If we assume that people were scared and worried about their well being, then they should have run away from the spot. Instead, Shetty says,"everyone was falling over one another to get a glimpse. it was like watching a cricket match."

What kind of an attitude is this? on one hand some religious group taking law in to their hands claiming to be the saviours of morality and culture, is attacking women, and on the other hand, we see alarmingly increasing level of lack of concern and love towards fellow humans.

Iam quoting Voltaire, translated from THE PHILOSOPHICAL DICTIONARY by H.L.Woolfe.This is for those culprits who shield themselves under the religious garb.

"The theist does not know how God punishes, how he protects, how he pardons, for he is not reckless enough to flatter himself that he knows how God acts, but he knows that God acts and that He is just. He believes that religion does not consist either in the opinions of an unintelligible metaphysic, or in vain display, but in worship and justice. The doing of good, there is his service; being submissive to God, there is his doctrine."

This is for us to know what is humanitarianism.

Mother Teresa says,"Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely, and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work."
