Is history an effective teacher?
While this blast did not take the largest toll (271 lives were lost in the bomb carnage on March 12, 1993), this was more shocking, coming almost on the heels of the Nov 26, 2008 attack not even three years ago.
Mumbai has been proving to be a magnet for terrorists with 13 bombings in the last 18 years taking 753 souls to the grave untimely. When will it be enough for law enforcement to stop this?
What went wrong? There is no definite answer. "We had no intelligence" claimed those in power! Are we blaiming the would be attackers for not giving advance warning? Looks like all the three intelligence agencies on the ground- Special Branch, ATS and IB were snoring at the switch!
This also does not answer the question why the government delayed covering the city so prone to attack, with CCTV coverage by over two years. CCTVs have kept London safe.... The Chief Minister claimed the delay was bureaucratic??
One can almost expect that once again we will blame our neighbor for the dastardly act. Why can we not keep our house safe and in order?
Mumabi Police carries the motto: "Sadrakṣaṇāya Khalanigrahaṇāya" (सद्रक्षणाय खलनिग्रहणाय, "To protect the good and to punish the evil"). Is it not time to take this to heart?
Government's FIRST responsibilities are: Protect the life of its Citizens, Protect the territorial integrity, Rule of Law.
When any of these three fail nothing else matters!
