Practice what you Preach
It becomes a matter of immense displeasure to see people discoursingdifferent ideologies, but practicing none. In the same context I would like toshare a story, impressing upon the importance of the virtue of preaching onlythat which is being practiced.
Decades ago, there lived a widow with her only son in aremote Indian village. The son had immense carving for jaggary and wanted toeat it at any given time. His mother was upset with his habit as it was costingher on all the fronts and most painfully, the oral health of her son whohimself was indifferent to any of her plea. During that time around a preacherknown for transforming the lives of many through his preaching and blessings, visited the village. Listening to the opinions of fellow villagers, the widow tookher son to that preacher. Listening to her vowed the preacher asked the widowto come a day later. Next day she again requested the preacher to cure her sonof his dreadful habit, preacher again asked her to come yet another day later. This became a routine for next 15 days. The mother has gone infuriated by thistime even then, keeping the past track of the preacher; she again brought herson for the last time. Finally on the 16th day, the preacher simply told theboy to leave the bad habit of eating jaggary, he then blessed the boy and askedthe widow to be rest assured. The widow had not expected such a simple showwithout worship or display of mysterious powers. Grabbing her son from the armshe vehemently asked the preacher to give an explanation for bothering herselfand her son if he just had to say this much. The preacher politely asked her tosit down and have some water. Now, the preacher started saying that he too wasaddicted to the sweetness of jaggary therefore, he said that,’ I can not preacha thing that is contrary to my nature, and it took me fifteen days to come andjudicially preach this boy and the show you perceive as without any display ofsuper natural powers then I must tell you that I have blessed your son with astable and a strong mind earned by virtue of years' of practicing what I preach.
I would appreciate comments from all who read this!!!
