DAY 911 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

It is the simple things in life that move us the most. It is the common things in life that affect us the most. It is, I have discovered, life itself that touches us the most. I wait patiently for life to present itself to me. I wait till it summons me to notice. I wait in expectation of that which shall unfold itself, and having found it, expect more … Each day beckons us to rub shoulders with the unexpected. This may be of value or perhaps none at all, but rub it does. And when it does, we welcome it and pay homage to it. My tenure at that elevated chair that sits opposite to the one they term ‘hot seat’ is an exercise in refreshment. One moves another comes and before long you are drawn into the other - the life they lead, their social standing, their accumen and grit, their submission and fears. They all apprehend loss, yet when it does defeat them, they do not lament or dwell on it for long. For them, as they politely say, just the fact that they came here is sufficient enough. They are polite and diplomatic, but one cannot rule away the pain of lost opportunity. Or conversely the joy of achievement, even if it were to be a meagre amount. There is though one ability that rises above all this, from the contestants. The ability of character. This cannot come from any possible attempt of learning or tuition. This comes from the earth - the earth they were born in, the earth that constitutes their country and proud nation. The fervor and commitment to country over self, to community over personal is an aspect that gets appreciation in the loudest cheer. This level of devotion cannot be falsely manufactured. It just happens. And happens well all the time. I had an interesting meeting with a doctor from Goa. Interesting because he has worked on a cure for progeria and the results apparently are working. Man has been labored with ailments and disease and then suddenly a section of humanity renders itself to discovery and invention and the balance changes. What could never be discovered was discovered. What could never be cured got cured. He tells me the importance of ayurveda and how an immense amount of research in medication and treatment is being centered around the age old Indian treatments that have always had ayurvedic in their midst. The west has opened its eyes finally to the ancient treatment and now some of the most important pharma, is dedicating its research towards this end. Slowly but surely the old world finds its way into the present. Some things will never change. They came to us through great perseverance and tapasya. That cannot be wished away. There must be some justifiable truth in all that is being manufactured, but largely there is now a reliance on the ancients and their years and years of practice discovery and implementation. What is then most noticeable is the attention that all of us got after years of castigation, cynicism and shear abuse. There is now a gentle awakening. A slumber fest that has eventually come to rest, because finding solutions is a lot more important than relying on past foreign assertions. The foreign is now agog with opportunity. The need to utilize what has been our natural form, now attracts greater attention than it did before. Our large demographic is now our huge asset. Numbers play an important part in most occupations. But for a nation whose ancestors invented the zero, there seems to be no hesitation now in accepting its presence and importance. So my prayers seek an entry into the minds of the others ~ My love devotion and dedication to those that came in late due to the festive sesson … but came … Amitabh Bachchan
