India 2020 : Management Challenges Paradigm For Economic Growth
A national Seminar On "India 2020: Management Challenges Paradigm For Economic Growth" was Organized By Faculty of Management, Yagyavalkya Institute of Technology, Sitapura, Jaipur, On Feb. 25, 2006.
The key-note-address was delivered by Prof. Geetika Kapoor, Director, R. A. Poddar Institute of Management. She spoke about India 2020 Vision, Characteristics and the requirement of Developed nation and challenges that would emerge. She emphasized the need to strengthen the education system to develop the capacity to dream, to create opportunities, to be creative and innovative and to transform into destination-led instead of destiny-led nation.
Mr. I. C. Agrawal, CMD, Genus Overseas Electronics Ltd. and Kailash group of Companies, speaking as Guest of honour expressed the views that to create employment opportunities and economic growth in the rural and non-urban sectors, the Govt. should follow the Denmark example of providing Infrastructure and Benefits for setting up Business units in the rural areas. He also suggested that we need to make sincere efforts in capacity building, practical and applied knowledge and training. We should develop work ethic for better growth. Mr. Anurag Bhatnagar, IAS, Director General, National Institute of Agriculture Marketing, Jaipur emphasized on the aspect of creating more income opportunities for the rural and agrisector by enlarging the value-chain of agro and agro-based product, developing Infrastructure-specifically Agriculture Marketing Infrastructure.
Dr. Damodar Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan Technical University Kota, Speaking as the Chief Guest advised to concentrate on learnings from Indian Culture and Tradition, capitalize on the "Swadeshi" concept and adopt the new Technologies selectively with suitable adaptation instead of blindly following the foreign concepts and Technologies.
The Technical Session-I was chaired by Sh. R. K. Poddar, Chairman, CII, Rajasthan State Council, Jaipur. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Vijay Veer Singh, Deptt. Of Economics, University of Rajasthan, Mr. Atul Sharma, Divisional Manager, MICO BOSCH, Jaipur, Dr. Tamal Sarkar, Project Manager, UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) New Delhi and Prof. P. S. Gahlot, Principal, Yagyavalkya Institute of Technology, Sitapura, Jaipur. The speakers emphasized on the need to Develop People with right kind of skills and capabilities.
Mr. Poddar specifically highlighted the need to develop a positive attitude and responsibility towards jobs. Another area of concern for the 2020 Scenarios is existing gaps in infrastructure and needed infrastructure. The need to invest almost 3 to 4 times more than the present level of investment on infrastructure with a distinct tilt towards developing the non- urban/agrarians sector as well as in social sector i.e. Education, Health and other civil facilities.
Technical Session-II was chaired by Prof. Kanta Ahuja, Ex V.C., Rajasthan & Ajmer Universities. The distinguished speakers in this session were Dr. Veena Jha, India Programme Officer, UNCTAD, New Delhi, Prof. Satish K. Batra, Director, Institute of Communication & Management, Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, Jaipur, and Mr. Mukesh Jain, Visiting Faculty, Poddar Institute of Management, Jaipur. This session was devoted to Social Challenges. Speakers emphasized the need to focus on reducing inequality, and poverty by creating more income opportunities in agri and rural sectors. We also need to work on values and work ethics to develop more ethical work with appropriate blend of honesty, responsibility, cooperation, collaboration and Indian Traditions.
The IIIrd Session was open house interaction chaired by Dr. Rakesh Hooja, IAS, Principal Secretary, Training, Govt. of Rajasthan and Director, HCM-RIPA, which witnessed lively participations from the audience and the panel members.
Dr. Hooja in his valedictory address summarized the deliberations and emphasing that economic growth looses relevance without accompanying human growth. For human growth we need money to invest in social Infrastructure. This money is made available through economic growth which is basically the out-come of corporate growth.
Therefore, we need to have long-term perspective to respond positively to environmental changes. The entrepreneurs, the planners and the political need to exhibit visionary leadership. The intricacies of corporate growth, human growth and economic growth should appropriately be linked and networked.
In order to be ready for India 2020 and well prepared to march ahead the mantra is Education & Reeducation to enhance productivity continuously and to invest in Infrastructure specifically in rural, non-urban and social sectors to create more and more opportunities.
We are a great nation. We have shown our potentials and capabilities within short span of 50 years. We continue to hold advantage on two counts: - Huge young population with extensive potentials and Very rich heritage & culture.
In the beginning, Er. S. P. Geol, Chairman, Yagyavalkya Institute of Technology Sitapura, Jaipur welcomed the guests, speakers and the delegate. The participants included Engineering & Management Students, professionals from the industry, Academic and Research and distinguished members of the chambers like CII, RCCI, PHDCCI etc.
Shri Ashok Agrawal, CEO, Yagyavalkya Institute of Technology Sitapura, Jaipur presented the vote of thanks to the guests, media and delegates for making the seminar a grand success.
