HEY RAM
It is said that Mahatma Gandhi breathed his last uttering these words. In Rajghat, there words are inscribed over his cemetry. Well Probably that could be the feelings of those who had their aspirations on a national alternative on BJP. I believe that BJP in its new incarnation should have steered clear of Hindu Rashtra and two nation theory of Golwalkar and Veer Savarkar. It should have brought refreshingly new ideas to the political firmament. It could demonstrate that they could seriously address governance issues when Vajpayee led NDA dispensation for 6 years - being the first non congress government to complete a full term. Unfortunately for the party, there were too many aspirants to climb up the ladder and assume the role of a leader. After Atalji and Advani there were many of them who aspired to lead the party and possibly the Government if ever they had second chance. This included veterans like Murli Manohar Joshi, Shekawat who never liked the idea of Advani becoming PM. There were people like Jaswant singh, Arun shourie,Yashwant Sinha and Jaitley who were considered to be close to Atalji. There were staunch Advani loyalists like Venkaih Naidu, sushma Swaraj,Javadekar etc and a lone crusader who considered himself to be a lucky leader Raj nath singh. The party was bereft of any idea except that Advani brought in to focus black money slashed away in tax havens. Late image building about Advani did not translate in to support for the party and the party faired badly-worse than previous attempt . But instead of finding the root cause of the debacle, daggers were drawn and personalised attacks were let open. This does not augur well for the party with a difference. Advani did the right thing in renunciating his leadership after the debacle. Advani himself should have done some serious introspection and found a successor. May be that could have been through an election because the rival team believes that the leader must be elected and evolved and not nominated. It is up to Advani to re build the party for other lack the vision and clarity of this old war horse. Advani deserves some respect for all these toilings over the years and the others should take him seriously if at all they want to be in serious contention as a national alternative to Congress
