MTV Roadies...No Values Only Money!

(This is an attempt by me to criticize bad part of reality TV show. There is nothing wrong about reality TV show, but my point is that we better understand our own values & limits and then proceed. )

If you search the term "MTV Roadies" in Google...you get whopping 6,94,000 search results in less than a second. Wow!Isn't it amazing? But reality is different than popularity, and it is true in case of Roadies too. MTV Roadies is no exception.

The concept was invented by Raghu Ram. I never heard of them before, or never saw them. But when I saw them on TV asking baseless Questions to aspirants, I became so curious that I started watching every episode of Roadies. It was exciting time.

It was fun to see Guy-Gals of our age running after shortcuts to fame. Every Interview was fun. We used to enjoy it. I mean, watching an interview on television where you could hardly predict next question posed, was a real adventure. You don't have to go out of interview room, to feel the heat of what is meant by Roadies. That was wonderful.

No matter, sometimes Raghu Ram lost temper, chided to an extent where the guy/gal broke her heart, completely demoralized and shaken. And other way round, some fellows used to enjoy it, whatever may be the question. It was fun. I mean why you should be bothered about results, go and hit it. It was an open invite for hidden roadies in all of us.

As show entered into next rounds, it was going ok. Sometimes we felt sad for someone who became victim of internal politics among aspirants, or other day we celebrated the victory of a beautiful Gal, who never thought she is going to make. We felt part of it, as if something good/bad has happened to our own friend. The drama was rightly setting its tone. It was going on well.

But after watching last episode, where Gals were asked to fight among themselves in a ring, openly watched by villagers where competition was held, I was depressed. I was damn upset with the way, show was broadcast on TV. It was embarrassing to see Gal pulling each others cloths to win a cat fight. It was equally embarrassing to see crowd around them was excited to see more of cat fight. One of the contestants later openly admitted how he enjoyed the cat fight. In the ugly fight, gals totally forgot the presence of other people around them. While I was watching it on TV, some of my friends who were watching with me, were excited to see undraping of cloths by Gals. It was shameful. Not for doers, but for viewers.

How true it was when someone said, nowadays if someone pays you for undraping cloths, why shouldn’t you do it? It’s not a matter of dignity; it’s a matter of money. If a cat fight could earn you 2 Lakhs and a trip to Australia, it hardly matters you pull other person’s jeans or top. No way is wrong. What matters is end result. Shameless!

Have we lost our trust in our own capabilities? Have we become accustomed with the shortcuts for fame & success? Are we sucking ourselves into nonsense world of reality TV, with no objective? These shows are neither true entertainment nor informative at all. They are baseless. What values Roadies display? Where were Raghu Ram, when fight was becoming ugly? Or they were also enjoying the fight like millions of us? If this is what called as becoming Roadies, then I believe it’s worth not be a part of it.

So next time if you are watching some reality show like Roadies and viewing some part of it becomes objectionable, please turn off TV. I feel, as an individual we have our own limitations for protest. So it’s better to protest it by not watching it next time onwards. Roadies, whatever you make out of it, fame, TRP, Money you never added value to my life. Watching Roadies has become waste of time. It’s no entertainment, no information, and no values. It’s just ugly pursuit of short fame and money. MTV Please stop this nonsense!!!
