Canon looking to recover quickly from earthquake

The deadly Tsunami affected the company in numerous ways.  About 15 employees of the company were injured in buildings at Utsinomiya and other buildings in Northern Japan were also damaged. Critical parts and other components for a wide range of the company’s products were manufactured in those severely damaged plants and facilities. So, in order to check all this, the company decided to lower its earnings’ estimate so as to mirror the destruction caused by the tsunami on the company.

The company’s supply chain had to suspend operations at some affected locations for about a month. According to Canon Chairman Fujio Mitarai, the company’s recovery process was speedy than predicted, it had added about 50 billion yen ($600 million) to the company’s annual sales. And most of its operation sites and subsidiaries are back on its feet with the production work which started in the mid of March this year.

But on some other locations, the production is still not working smoothly as there are continuous power failures or shortage of raw materials at times. So, in order to defy these problems faced by the company, it is trying to accelerate the construction of its Kyushu Factory which is in southern Japan. This factory will manufacture the key parts of the products. Hence, all these factors point that Japan is recovering slowly from the disaster caused by the powerful Tsunami.
