Don’t micro manage
Well. Before reading this follow up blog, I would request the readers to go through my earlier blog – Marks of a Micro Manager.
I would like to share with you the following additional observations on micro managers:
- Micro managers may end up with catching the tail of the problems rather than taking them ‘head along’. You all know well, what would be the consequences of catching the tail of a hungry tiger!
- Micro managers deal with peripheral issues rather than getting into the core of the problems. Thereby they fail to identify men from boys. In the process, they may propose uniform solutions for all problems and you know the consequences of such a treatment
- Sometimes, micro managers fully exploit the gift of their tongues and try to project themselves in all forums. As this is invariably not backed by any concrete action, you will be able to clearly see their weaknesses
- Micro managers may not be in a position to guide their team in strategic endeavors as their focus would be mainly tactical issues. Therefore those working with such micro managers may not gain anything in the long run
- Micro managers are short term oriented living their managerial life on a daily basis. Their concern is only to ensure that they manage their day.
I have also seen managers at higher echelon exhibiting micro managerial tendencies. This is very dangerous for the organizations and also for those working closely with them. In the long run, it would affect the credibility of the organizations in the market place.
Do you agree?
