Common Wealth Games and Moody’s Ratings

Independent Principal Domain Consul...

Well. A disclaimer in the beginning.

I am not a spokesperson for the organizers of CWG. In fact, I had earlier planned to pen a blog on CWG – Common Wealth Games or Corruption Worldwide Games? But my other preoccupations did not permit me to capture my thoughts well in time.

At the same time, I would not like any one with a history to comment on others. May be, I belong to the genre that believes in the concept that only a person who is ‘blemish less’ has the right to blame others.

We heard what the Australian Olympic Committee Chairman had to say on the award of CWG to New Delhi.  We know the spirit of Olympic Games better than John Coates. His country pursued the racism of worst kind in recent times. We did not hear anything from him when students from India were attacked, severely injured and even killed in Australia. He did not give any advice to either his country men to shun violence or advise students from India to leave Australia for their own safety.

There are reports that some leading athletes have decided to keep away from CWG 2010. To participate or not, is their call but to blame it on the CWG is no good. They could have waited till the commencement of the games to decide otherwise. Well. There is also report that those who pulled out of the games this year, are not in form and they are predicted to fail in the games if they participate. Well. A coin has two sides and these athletes are trying to hide the other side to us.

Coming to Moody’s. Every one knows well by now their rating standards. They and their ilk are good at projecting anything that is substandard as worthy. Only they can rate sub-prime loans as AAA+++ rated (Do we have one such rating?). Hence their view on India need not be taken seriously. If they have opined negatively about India, believe me, it would turn out to be positive for India. I go by their track record in this regard.

Some countries and some people, have anti-India attitudes. They could not tolerate the progress made by India in recent years. They also know pretty well, in the coming years, India will be one of the super-powers. And India will play a major role in international affairs. They try to malign India at the first opportunity available.

Well. The organizers of CWG could have prepared well for the games. Despite all the fiasco, I wish the Games all the best, all the participants all success.

At any cost, the Games and the spirit of the Games should not be the losers.

Do you agree?
