Mobiles have become a very important part of our very existence these days. Some time back (about a year or so before), I shared with a leading mobile technology R&D expert, some thoughts on improving the mobile features. I wish to share some of them now.

The sender of the SMS to special people (particularly those we can neither speak or hear) has to key in lengthy messages taking considerable time. Instead the sender may be enabled only to speak his/her message and the mobile will convert this speech message into a text message and pass on to these special people. Similarly messages sent by the special people can either be delivered in speech or text form as preferred by the receiver. In my humble view, this facility will bring such special people closer to their people.

It has been the experience of many (including mine) that the present mobile charger unit comes out with cable of a metre (or more) in length. Many times, the cable portion gets damaged due to wrong / misuse while the adapter portion is in tact. There fore there is a demand for new charger to replace the damaged one. Hence it may be thought off, to dispense with the cable part in the charger. Due to this the cost can come down for the customer. In addition, this new changed cable less charger will be handy.

In the existing arrangements, one needs to have basic mobile instrument and the charger unit. Why not we combine both of them into one unit – in the mobile instrument itself?

When one goes out of town either for pleasure or for business, s/he has to look in for electrical connections / power source for charging the mobile. In case s/he goes out in to the wild or for trekking or mountaineering, where there is no such ready and steady power source available, s/he is totally cut off. To take care of such situations, why not a mobile with solar back up in built?

In India, we face the peculiar problem in mobile service. Customers complain the tower is weak and hence the connectivity is poor or is not established. To over come this, why not we think in terms of providing boosters in the mobile set itself, which can be activated by pulling out a metallic aerial as in the case of car radios or hand held transistor radios? This will definitely facilitate better communication.

We may be ushered in an area where many of the present gadgets like wrist watch, alarm clock, verbal reminder on appointments, music / fm radio / TV / cable TV broadcasting, hospital connectivity (blood pressure reader, diabetic measuring instrument, impending heart attack warning provider), payment gateway (dispensing with atm / credit / debit cards) etc may all be implanted in our modern mobile. (The above is only an expandable list). All in one?

Why not some thinking (fresh?) on the subject of use of mobile as storage of information or an instrument to recall / use stored information many miles away.

It may not be difficult to make these improvements.
