A Fresher's Resume
While writing a resume always put yourself from the recruiters point of view and read your resume how a recruiter would read it. Here are some things you must highlight to show that you are different from your batchmates. Remember, you need to rewrite resumes to the positions you apply for, do not have a general template for all companies and positions. Read the job description and the company culture on their websites and rewrite the resume so that your resume is closely matched to the open position and be a fit for the company.
1) Your semister scores (To show academic performance). It is a general assumption among Hiring Mangers that those students who work hard to gain more marks in college will also work hard to gain good reputation at work place.
2) Your extra carricular: Those students who have less marks academically will be given equal weightage if they excell on any extra carricular activity provided their academic performance is not too bad. It could even be typewriting.
3) Your project work: Only efficient students select project title that are challenging and future oriented. Do a project that will attract employers you are interested in.
4) Leadership: Please write in your resume if you are a leader of any group even if you were a leader of your class or any group in college.
5) Internship: If you have on-site training during summer. Please take up one with employer where you want to work in the future. Mention this in your resume.
6) Hobbies: Some recruiters look for what you do during free time. Most of the recruiters who wish to hire freshers look for LEARNING SKILLS so always mention some thing close to that like, reading, Internet searching for informations, discussing topics with friends, attending association meetings etc.
7) Contacts: Never forget to give your contacts like address and phone numbers.
8) Reference: Someone who can say good about you. (Professors)
9) Presentation: Present your resume in the best way possible (Resume Design)
10) Cover Letter: Always attach a covering letter addressed to the Hiring Manager.
