The IPL fiasco

Just to worsen the worldwide sentiments of bankruptcy and cheating, the IPL too seems to have gone down the wrong way. And there are many glaring mistakes in the franchisee selections, the players are paid gigantic hoards of money, some of the biggest names in business and entertainment like SRK, Lalit Modi, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta are associated with it, but what is the end result?

Like all dramatic business houses, the IPL too, seems to have turned out to good to be true. So, the players and the advertisers are caught in one big controversy. The IPL office in Bombay has been raided and huge sums of money have been unearthed. Also, the criminal offences of Lalit Modi in the US, have come to the fore, and there is a huge mess in the name of an event.

The officials say that the due processes were not carried out and that all the buyers of the public limited company have entered one huge scam. But isn’t that the idea of business to do just that? Create larger than life scams to entertain the public? So, as it turns out, instead of being a sporting match, the IPL has turned into a virtual cricketing circus, with all of us enjoying the antics of all those involved. And to make matters worse, even innocent politicians like Tharoor and his girlfriend are being tagged in the grime.

Being far from a professional cricketing event, the IPL is just one razzly, dazzly, glam-sham event. And all the controversy and buffoonery associated with it is just to add to the TRPs of the viewers. Is this cricket, no way, it certainly is not!
