“Honour” of family or caste is the biggest reason for these murders. Two teenage girls were murdered by their cousin in Noida for daring to run away with their boy friends and a couple murdered in front of many eyes for getting married in the same ‘gothra’. The later case was treated very seriously by the court and the killers are ordered for hang till death.

It is sad to notice that more girls are becoming victims in these incidents than boys. Many such killings are regularly happening in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. These are socially sanctioned or approved by the village or caste panchayats.

The murderers are even given more respect for killing or “sacrificing” even their own family members for protecting their caste’s respect.
