Why Congress won and BJP lost?
The answer is that BJP was sheepish about putting forth its nationalistic yet secular agenda like
1. Abolition of article 370 of the Constitution conferring a special status on
J&K;
2. Enforcement of a Uniform Civil Code; and
3. Deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
There was nothing communal about it and yet BJP did not press for the
implementation of this agenda even during the time it was in power. There is no
dearth for intellectual leaders in BJP except that for quite some time by now
there have been bikkerings amongst its leaders and superiority complex has also
crept in, which has distanced its leaders from one another, disappointing the
people who have reposed faith in them.
BJP being a National Party, should
not have given in to Shiv Sena a Regional Party in Maharashtra, Bajrang Dal and
a few Hindu Radical outfits, who have always blown things out of proportions
and BJP failed to contain them, resulting in people losing confidence in BJP
& this is the very reason why TDP and BJD distanced them from BJP.
L K Advani
failed to imbibe the qualities of Atal Behari Vajpayee like—holding the people
in the party together, maintaining balance, maintaining restraint while giving
public speeches, public statements, etc., though he has been closely associated
with the latter for decades. So also, a sort of groupism has crept into BJP,
which has taken its toll on the party. Simply because Sonia Gandhi trivialized
the politics, Advaniji also followed suit. He should have thought of his
stature and the ordeals he has passed through to be what he is today and the
fact that Sonia Gandhi what she is today is something she inherited. Advaniji
should not have condescended to her level and should have maintained his
dignity.
On the other hand, Congress very aggressively and
without any shame pressed for its pro-Muslim agenda including reservations in
Govt. jobs for Muslims. Whereas, Congress stuck to its minority appeasement
programs and Nuclear Energy programs. likewise Swiss Money should have been
tracked and brought home discreetly and then announced to the public.
Merely because BJP lost to Congress in the
recently concluded elections, it should not feel demoralized or written down
and instead strive hard as effective and constructive opposition,
simultaneously introspecting into the reasons for their debacle so as to ensure
that they do not recur. As there is an adage “without effective opposition
democracy cannot survive”, let us hope that BJP would work as “effective
opposition” for the welfare of the public admitting latter’s verdict.
