Afghanistan War Is the Longest War For The United States
The Afghan-US war began 10 years ago. It followed the September 11 attacks after which President George W. Bush ordered air strikes against the9a0-144 Taliban in places, such as Kabul, Jalalabad and Kandahar. When Osama Bin Laden planned and executed the attacks on the United States on September 11, the United States government had asked the Taliban to handover the terrorist mastermind. They delayed acting on United States demand and on October 7, 2001, the US launched air strikes on Afghanistan.
Soon the American soldiers even launched attack on foot. The Taliban fled from Kandahar and the United States set up a military base near the Kandahar Airfield. The main mission was to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden, so victory over Kandahar was far from the main aim. According to CNN in October 2002, Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld said that the Taliban and the Al Qaeda are gone. The war has continued for 10 years. Bush announced that he would use every means and source of power including, political, financial, and weaponry to hunt down Osama Bin Laden. The chase lasted for 10 years because Osama knew the terrain and the US soldiers did not.
The Afghanistan war is being termed as the longest war in American history. The Afghan was fought for 104 months, and is still continuing. The Afghan war has surpassed the Vietnam War 9A0-158in terms of duration. Actually both these war scenarios cannot be compared. The Vietnam War was due to political policies and was against communism in South East Asia. The Afghanistan war is due to the attacks on American soil. Afghanistan war was an answer to terrorism against the country in a direct sense.
In the Vietnam War nearly 50000 American soldiers lost their lives. It is certainly not the case in Afghanistan war. The expenditure for Afghanistan war has been way above any other war for any country. Also there was a severe loss of life and injuries for people of Afghanistan. The death toll is much higher compared to Vietnam War. Both these war scenarios are very complex to understand and they hold no similarity. However, one thing in common is that both these wars have coste20-390 America dearly and has tested the patience of the people. Today, Americans are asking questions like what has America achieved in such a war. The taxes paid by the civilians have been high in the last 10 years and a lot of money is being spent on this war.
