DAY 863 Amitabh Bachchan Blog
On a day that remained wet and dark clouded, that invited you to stay in bed, that stroked a desire to not work at all, that gave some discomfort of a cold and fever, that bathed itself in laziness, that built opportunities for back to back films, that relished the ‘garam pakodas’, that remained in the house that I built … it is a delight to be settled in that soft black chair, littered with the books and papers unfinished and unattended, reminiscing the day gone by and for its worthy accounts to be related to the extended.
There are, I must confess, moments, when a complete blanked out mind will just not allow one to punch out even a single word from this flat, illuminated all purpose machine that I now look into. But the attraction of conveying to all is predominantly strong and so, by the end of an evening a clarion call towards the MBP beckons and attracted towards it one opens the lid to access browser and read and write and communicate what the past 24 hours dealt for us.
Most of the early part of the morning, the inspiration time, the time when all the best ideas trip through, were devoted to answering an interview which has been on for several days. It is exhaustive and substantially long, for, that is what the brief before accepting to do it, had stipulated. It is still not over and I believe it may still take a few days before it finally does. The magazine its going to, shall have to either scrap it away or devote a few editions to it !!
However, there is comfort in the thought that it shall most certainly find its way on to the blog, because this is one element in the working that shall store and secure the content.
The problem with being around for over 40 years is that every two or three years an entire update of my career and me, is asked to be placed. It is a repetition for me, but for those that come across it, a first. Giving impressions then on an interview without the detailed inputs, feels like a let down from me. And so it is back to the good ol’ days and stories and episodes at times heard many times before, repeated. Happy readings then, whenever it gets to print in which ever outlet.
There have been some interesting questions that have been asked and that have, I hope been adequately answered. The question of presence and length of stay of artists, the feel of importance and its dissolution eventually, are most pertinent. I have often felt remorse at those that shone in limelight and then through time have become redundant and forgotten - a fate that each one of us shall find ourselves soon enough !
There are according to me 5 stages of stardom and they are as follows :
‘First : Who is Amitabh Bachchan ?‘
‘Second : Get me Amitabh Bachchan !’
‘Third : Get me a Amitabh Bachchan look alike’
‘Fourth : Get me a younger Amitabh Bachchan’
‘Fifth : Who is Amitabh Bachchan ?’
The fifth is the killer and most poignant and one that we shall all go through, quite undoubtedly. It is in the nature of things. It is the culture, the norm. A standard that has never been readjusted or challenged. A harsh truth, ruthless and unforgiving.
The glory and love shall all fade away, never to return. It is best then, to reconcile now with the facts that shall follow. Better to be prepared than to be surprised.
Good night then .. and with my love …
Amitabh Bachchan
