DAY 578 Amitabh Bachchan Blog
I do hope you enjoy it and get many others of your clan to get into the groove of the monkey dance.. ha ha ha …
Apart from the images you see on the video, I have some very exciting
visuals of many others ‘doing’ it. Prudence however, does not permit me
to put it up on the blog for your enjoyment. And please do not insist
that you see it because I would never be able to show it to you. It now
becomes my personal little treasure, to be loved and enjoyed in
isolation !!
There has however been some other forms of excitement in the time
gone by since Taj Coromandel and Chennai. It was 5 am again and Bigg
Boss at Lonavala this morning and …
A snake in my room !!
Yes !! A snake !!
It was noticed by the security as they were on routine check of my
little chalet where I rest and make up. A charmer or keeper or expert
was called - apparently they have a very committed professional in the
city, who extricated it from my bathroom and got rid of it. A fairly
large one they say. Eeeeuaaahhee !!!
Alright …. back to more civil conversation. The post and the mix on
‘PAA’ looks good and satisfactory. I felt good that I could be there to
give some suggestions and was happy at the end of it to find the
technicians accepting it. It is a world of its own in a studio where
final mixes take place. The sophisticated gadgetry, the computerized
operations and the skill of those that function them is so awe
inspiring. Millions of electronic buttons, levers, screens, patterns to
execute and match. Every little detail to be put in place - the twitter
of the birds, the wind and traffic in the background, ambient sounds to
make the visual look as normal as possible - the clink of a glass, the
footsteps on the floor, that breath between words spoken - every sound
just right and in perspective. And then the dialogues from the dub and
the music to enhance its meaning. Each sentence each word placed in
correct tone and order for a projection on a large screen. Fascinating
work. Hours and hours of deep concentration, until the final product is
approved. And once it is, then, to be brought back to another studio
here in Mumbai for it to be Dolby balanced for some of the more
sophisticated theaters. Simultaneously the work in the laboratory
continues at a rapid pace. The negative is being washed and a positive
being done. The printing shall commence once the mixed film is
presented. Hundreds of prints to be made for a wide circulation. Days
and days shall go by as the colour correction takes place. The printing
then starts and the anxiety to make sure that during that process all
the work on the mix and the music and the dialogues are not washed away
in the developing tanks. Each print of the 8-900 prints that shall
emerge will be personally checked for any defects - lines, blotches and
other little defects. And then finally when it is ready the period to
allow it to dry for the maximum results to appear. The conversion to
digital, as this format catches the fancy of most distributors and
exhibitors and then finally the release.
And 2 hrs and 7 mins later a bunch of people after having been through
the experience shall walk away from a crowded hall and pass verdict.
For that one moment was the film made. For that one moment will the
fate of labor and creativity surface. For that one moment will decide
whether hours and hours of work and experience and perseverance was
worth it or not.. !!
This of course is nothing to take away from the designing of the film
in the mind of the director, its meticulous execution, the hours of
make up and the appearance in front of the lens, eventually.
Films and film making such a fascinating story … almost ..
Love to you and more ..,
Amitabh Bachchan
