    8 hours in the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu here in Chennai to felicitate him and his generosity to the workers of the Tamil Film Industry. He has allocated 100 acres of land for building houses for the workers and several other benefits announced. The variety show put up by the entire Industry brought nostalgia and history and emotion all into one. To see the first ever films of the greats MGR and Shivaji Ganesan, to see and hear them recite the great writing of the Chief Minister, then a writer in his early years and not in politics. He is 86 now and still is writing for 2 films apart from governing the State. To spend time with Rajni and Kamal who translate for me all the proceedings as we go along this rather long evening cum night.

    Karunanidhi remembers the telegram he sent me during my accident in 1982. I remind him of the first National Award that I received for ‘Saat Hindustani’ from him, when the awards were given out in Madras. He smiles pleasantly.

    Jaya sends me that as I land in Chennai and feels that it needs reference for the blog. I obey.

    It is late and it is an early flight tomorrow morning to Cochin in Kerala on the other side of the peninsula. There to felicitate Resul Pookutty for his Oscar and more recently for his Padma Award.

    I will leave now .. i need to prepare too for the event on Monday at the Bandra Fort and my recitation…
