DAY 791 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

The best planning is when you do not plan ! And then suddenly a plan erupts and takes shape. It is unwarranted, perhaps undesirable, and non committal yet it always turns out to be the best plan of the day. Ask me. I just fell a victim to it. And boy, was it enchanting !

We could be lounging around in our night gowns and pajamas, pfaffing and indulging in nothing at all and then suddenly someone throws an idea and everyone scampers away to get ready to execute it. Its the best act ever in unplanned planning. And today became special because of it.

Social networking is a contagious disease - once you start you never want it to end. We are so starved of wanting to communicate, that when it does happen we find ourselves in a situation that lingers on without stopping. You express something, push the button to post it and within seconds there is a response to it. Human nature demands then that you give an answer. The answer illicit’s a reaction and the wheel of networking starts to rotate in never ending fashion.

There are many still that look upon this with a certain amount of disdain. They consider it too childish and immature, a waste of time and energy and mostly, something that does not provide any value to your existence. They could all be right and they could all be wrong.

When I was considering the blog, I was most apprehensive about it. The tech involved in its operations were a little over bearing and alien. Most technologies are. But then as one got started and started to learn the operations and how they were to be put into practice, it all seemed easy and quite comfortable.

I thought I would never be able to do more than just switch a computer on. The thought of using it to store information, of sending out opinion and matter was beyond me. But I just felt that I would be isolated if I did not educate myself on this most useful object of every known persons desire. And also, there was a sense of pride in being able to be that exclusive member of the ‘computer club’.

I am still very distant and far from any excellence in the execution of this most complicated machinery, but hell, it has become an indispensable part of our lives almost. In the evening, in my room, in an area not greater than 15 square feet, 5 individuals seated barely a maximum of 5′ apart, were all occupied with their own respective laptops, iPads, BBerry’s and iPhones. And each happy with the belief that quality time was being spent. Yes there was quality time, but it was directed towards the quality of individual attention. I will deny the accusation that being in such close proximity, it was the modern generations indifference towards company that prevailed in the room. No. There was no indifference.

Despite the fact that we were all within such close quarters, we were communicating. Only difference was that the communication was taking place via the medium of the gadget. We were either passing emails to each other or trying to introduce the others to an interesting program on the net. Our speech was non existent, but not our browsers !!

Could this be the reason for the brevity in conversation among the new generation. There really is nothing to talk about ; its all available on the computer. Further investigation and debate needs to be conducted .

We go through perhaps one of the most important and exciting phases of our existence. An existence that  dwells in the cyber world with importance and impunity both.

Where this shall all lead us is not for us to debate or discuss, as did Barkha Dutt in ‘We the people’ on Tv. Let us enjoy its existence. Use it to our benefit and the benefit of humanity rather than be cynical and afraid of it. Let us not ask ourselves how long this will prevail or be alive. Maybe it serves its purpose in today’s time, not knowing where it shall be from tomorrow. Change is inevitable. This is not the end of the road. Every time we build a plane we feel we have built the ultimate machine. Until, a few years later, the new comes down and the old is forgotten and lost.

Who knows what benefits we reap from being in this state. But ‘being’ in it, is the important fact.
