Balika Vadhu and Violation of Postal Rules

Independent Principal Domain Consul...

Balika Vadhu is the most popular Indian TV Show these days. I understand the rural viewership is very very high in India creating a record of sorts.

TV is the most powerful medium and particularly if the programs broadcast are popular, they can change the mind set of the viewers.

This particular show highlights the negative impact of child marriages, which are unfortunately still very high in India. This show is doing a great job in highlighting these and slowly swaying the people away from practising them.

Well. The script writers of such popular and powerful programs should be very very careful. They should not even by their sheer ignorance, write to convey anything illegal in the country.

One such scene was broadcast today in the Balika Vadhu TV Show (31st July 2009).

The main family was celebrating Raksha Bandhan and the brother of one of the characters sends a postal cover containing Rs.500 note as a gift to his sister. The sister opens this postal (with postal stamps) and finds a letter and this Rs.500 note.

As per Indian Postal Rules, sending or receiving currency notes through postal covers is not permitted. Normally such currency notes can be sent only by money order.

To over come the money order costs, some people do send and receive currency notes through postal covers. Today's episode of Balika Vadhu, openly promotes sending currency notes through postal covers.

Both the script writer of Balika Vadhu and the Colors Channel are guilty of promoting something illegal. Our Indian Postal Authorities have clearly a very serious case against the script writer of Balika Vadhu and the Colors Channel for promoting something illegal.

Will the Script Writer and the Colors Channel immediately rectify and broadcast a regret message and state the correct postal rules?
