I think I spoke too soon yesterday. That spring in the legs and body got drastically converted to a rather lethargic countenance from early morning and has remained so even as I write. I have no idea what the reason could be. I spoke to my doctor and informed him of it, but he did not seem to think it was anything alarming. Asked me to increase my liquid intake, and rest at a reasonable hour.
I vouched I would do that and I shall.
Now for God’s sake please do not start up a barrage of medical bulletins on what and how I should be handling my health, or how my work pattern should be reduced. I am fine. I write to you do I not. Yes, I do need to take that much needed rest and so I have cancelled my gym tomorrow morning, so I can sleep late. All shall be well.
In the evening was the music release of ‘Robot’ and we all went along. It was wonderful meeting up with Rajni - Rajnikant to many and to be a part of this wonderful event. It is one of the most expensive films ever made in India and has been directed by Shankar, an incredible talent from Chennai. The film of course is in Tamil but it has a Hindi version too as well as a Telugu version and it looks stunning !
A lovely well conducted exciting evening, with some of the most incredible talent on stage - ARRehman, Rajni, Aishwarya, Resul Pookutty, Danny Denzongpa, Sun TV and a host of other celebrities, conducted and controlled by the irrepressible Malishka, my RJ of the morning hours !!
I have always admired the discipline and order in which the South Indian film Industry conducts itself. And admired too the efforts it makes in trying out new and fresh ideas. The bank of their talent is immense, but always has been humble and down to earth about it. The great studio system in Chennai can never be forgotten in the days of the late 50’s and 60’s. In those years there were many of us in Mumbai and the so called North that went across to make films there. Remakes were a fashion and they had their own success ratios. But what had impressed me most was their administration, planned conduct and efficiency.
Gemini Studios, AVM, Nagi Reddy, Prasad Studios, giants of the South and such wonderful memories filled up with our association with them and in their vast surroundings.
I visited those areas again recently when working on Paa and was a bit distressed to find large scale real estate constructions occupying these facilities. Not entirely but, substantially. The area had a quiet exclusivity about it, not anymore. But they still ake great films.
The day has been filled with Southern Greats today, for, earlier in the evening we had Mohan Lal sir over with his director Major Ravi to show me some of the rushes on ‘Kandahar’, the Malayalam film that I had shot with them in Ooty. Looking good.
I want to elaborate more, to give details of so many memories of the South, but I think it would be prudent to rest a while today. Perhaps in better climes, in days to come, there shall be opportunity.
But till then my love and concern to all ..
